5 Things You Need To Stop Doing

In order to change your life, you must change your habits. the first step is evaluating your life. Start with asking yourself these questions:

“What in my life is working?”
“What in my marriage is working?”
“What areas in my life need a change?”

After you’ve done an assessment on your life and marriage, you can pick one of these below and make the changes, starting fresh tomorrow. Our 365 Self Discovery Questions book will also be a great addition to help you become more self aware.

Stop focusing on what you don’t have.

Comparison is the thief of joy and if you’re spending your time thinking about what you want instead of what you already have, you’ll never be content.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself.

Self pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it, we can never do any good in the world. Put all of your energy into making yourself a better person and a better spouse.

Stop spending time with the wrong people.

Surround yourself with friends and family who will encourage you, wipe your tears, listen and validate what you’re thinking and feeling. It’s also important that these people can speak truth into your life when you can’t see it. Make sure all of the people you spend the majority of your time with are safe.

Stop having unrealistic expectations.

Don’t expect too much of your spouse and of yourself or you’ll constantly feel disappointed and let down. Your spouse will feel like they aren’t enough for you. Check your expectations and make sure they’re realistic and that you’ve communicated them ahead of time.

Stop putting your marriage on autopilot.

The most dangerous place to find yourself is on cruise control and not being intentional with your words, actions and habits. Couples who find themselves on autopilot are usually disconnected, unhappy and lonely. And let me tell you, this does not happen overnight. It’s a slow and deceiving process. It’s always better to be proactive than reactive in your marriage.
